The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier

Attention all bay area TFG readers. The de Young Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco is launching The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Catwalk to the Sidewalk. The exhibition will be on view from March 24-August 19, 2012 and this Friday is the Le Grande Fête, where you can party with the designer at the opening with food and cocktails.

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier is the first major exhibition dedicated to the celebrated French designer. More than 130 iconic haute couture and prêt-a-porter ensembles created between the early 1970s and 2010 will be dramatically displayed in scenic contexts ranging from the boudoir to graffiti streets and the catwalk. Animated mannequins talk and sing in playful and outrageous vignettes, enhancing the artistry and culturally revolutionary work of Gaultier. The exhibition also includes the elaborate costumes from Madonna's Vogue tour.

The Fashion Grid is a happy to see another museum recognize fashion designers as true artists. To purchase tickets for the event, click here

Paris Museum Exhibit of Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs

As committed museum members, The Fashion Grid is thrilled about last week's opening of the “Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs” show at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Fashion often goes unrecognized as an art form, and the role of museums is significant in reinforcing the artistic value in the fashion itself. After the amazing success of the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, TFG hopes for more exhibits supporting the work of fashion designers and allowing eager visitors like us to indulge in all the beauty. Check out these pictures from the exhibit.

Marni for H&M

Here at The Fashion Grid, Marni is one of our favorite designers. With her innovative use of color and print, TFG loves the feminine quirkiness of her designs. For those of you unfamiliar with Marni, the aesthetic can best be described as a modern take on 1970s secretary-chic. The fashion line was founded in 1994 by Consuelo Castiglioni, who continues to be the label's designer.  Today was the launch of Marni's line for H&M women and men, adding to the growing list of designer collaborations the fast-fashion retailer has geniusly offered its customers over the years. Here are some of our favorite looks from the line and a video footage of an interview with Castiglioni and the Marni for H&M photo shoot.
