Fashion Geek Alert: W Magazine Partners with Hipstamatic

I generally like to avoid giving in to mass trends. I like the excitement of being original or finding trends that haven't caught everyone's eye; at least not yet. I'm not always the first to discover something by any means, but I do like the idea of standing out a bit. This also goes for Instagram. I downloaded Hipstamatic over two years ago on my i-phone, before Instagram reached the fever pitch it has become among its millions of users. But even as Instagram became the "it" photo app, I stuck to my guns. I liked that Hipstamatic wasn't as well known. I was in love with the filters and was especially fond of that fact that I didn't have to join a community of users and share all my information, even though it does offer that option. And now, I am proud to say that the less popular, but (in my opinion) cooler i-phone application is taking on a truly fashionable edge as it partners up with W magazine to launch the new application "WMag FreePak."

magazine is famous for its cool fashion photography and fostering the work of the industry’s most world-renowned fashion photographers. With the WMag FreePak, the brand aims to continue with this tradition of identifying and supporting that talent, but in a digital and social way. The app offers cooler filters and lenses, allowing for more creative shots. By using the lens, users can also enter a photo contest with magazine, whose editors will select a weekly winner. Those picked will have their work  featured on the magazine’s Facebook page. The grand prize winners will eventually have their photos showcased on W’s website and alongside the magazine’s work at a month-long exhibition. The app will be available for free for the first six weeks. And guess who has already downloaded it? TFG!
