Fashion Geek Alert: Google Glass Hits the DVF Runway

Diane von Furstenberg's Spring/Summer collection wasn't the only thing that came down the catwalk on Sunday. Her models were also donning Google Glass, the upcoming Internet-connected headset and eyewear device developed by the tech giant. The device has many smartphone-like functions and acts like a wearable computer: users can take pictures, record video, receive messages and check calendars, among other things. Google has packed memory, a processor, a camera, speaker and microphone, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and a battery-all inside the right earpiece.

DVF’s team took advantage of Glass’s recording capabilities and decided to incorporate them into their show and use the footage it captured to make a short film. The video is narrated by Furstenberg herself and takes viewers to pre-show fittings, backstage and down the runway.

The collaboration came about when Furstenberg had tried the Glass after meeting with Sergey Brin over the summer, who appeared alongside the designer for the finale walk. We are truly obsessed with this video and encourage our readers to check it out for themselves. You literally get to experience a fashion show through the eyes of a famous designer and a runway walk through the eyes of a model. Now this is fashion geekiness at its ultimate best.

Fashion Geek Alert: Cushnie et Ochs Creates Custom Phone

One of our favorite emerging brands, Cushnie et Ochs, has teamed up with MADE Fashion Week and HTC to create a custom HTC One Smartphone. The limited edition phone pays tribute to the black and white color palette from Cushnie et Ochs spring 2013 collection, which will be shown on Sept. 7th at 3 p.m. at Milk Studios.

The phone will be pre-loaded with MADE Fashion week applications and software. "Bringing the Cushnie et Ochs aesthetic to a world outside the realm of fashion was so new and inspiring and really allowed us to develop the ultimate sleek and sexy tech accessory,” said Carly Cushnie. This is one cell phone that may be worth switching over for from the i-phone.

Fashion Geek Alert: W Magazine Partners with Hipstamatic

I generally like to avoid giving in to mass trends. I like the excitement of being original or finding trends that haven't caught everyone's eye; at least not yet. I'm not always the first to discover something by any means, but I do like the idea of standing out a bit. This also goes for Instagram. I downloaded Hipstamatic over two years ago on my i-phone, before Instagram reached the fever pitch it has become among its millions of users. But even as Instagram became the "it" photo app, I stuck to my guns. I liked that Hipstamatic wasn't as well known. I was in love with the filters and was especially fond of that fact that I didn't have to join a community of users and share all my information, even though it does offer that option. And now, I am proud to say that the less popular, but (in my opinion) cooler i-phone application is taking on a truly fashionable edge as it partners up with W magazine to launch the new application "WMag FreePak."

magazine is famous for its cool fashion photography and fostering the work of the industry’s most world-renowned fashion photographers. With the WMag FreePak, the brand aims to continue with this tradition of identifying and supporting that talent, but in a digital and social way. The app offers cooler filters and lenses, allowing for more creative shots. By using the lens, users can also enter a photo contest with magazine, whose editors will select a weekly winner. Those picked will have their work  featured on the magazine’s Facebook page. The grand prize winners will eventually have their photos showcased on W’s website and alongside the magazine’s work at a month-long exhibition. The app will be available for free for the first six weeks. And guess who has already downloaded it? TFG!

Fashion Geek Alert: Top 20 Fashion Pinterest Accounts

Pinterest has been an obsession of mine for quite some time now. My morning routine is pretty standard, and all involve my i-phone. After snoozing the alarm a couple times and taking a glance through my email inbox, I scroll through images on my Pinterest app and collect those that inspire me. Lunch breaks, waiting periods, and sleepless nights often involve Pinterest as well. With the growing success of the site, companies have turned to Pinterest as another social media platform in which they can connect with followers as well as create a visual story of what their respective brand is about. If you haven't checked out TFG's Pinterest account, click here (you don't need to be a member).

The site has become so popular among those within the fashion industry, that this week Mashable published a list of the top 20 Pinterest Fashion Accounts to follow on Pinterest and we encourage our readers to follow them as well. If you haven't yet joined Pinterest, perhaps now would be a good time. Here are a few of our favorites:

Lauren Santo Domingo: A contributing editor at Vogue and co-founder of luxury retail startup Moda Operandi, is a qualified Pinterest addict with more than 3,200 pins. Her boards are full of the people, clothes and rooms that inspire her.

Peter Som: Most fashion designers only feature their own designs, but not Peter Som. His Pinterest boards abound in the things that inspire him.

Emily Schuman: The famous blogger behind Cupcakes and Cashmere has a wonderful Pinterest, full of the food, clothes and people who inspire her.

Erika Bearman: To use her own phrase, the pins of Erika Bearman (a.k.a. @OscarPRGirl) are all about "unapologetic glamour."

Nina Garcia: Marie Claire fashion director and Project Runway judge Nina Garcia organizes her boards by season and trend.  With over 3,000 pins, fashionistas will have plenty of sartorial visuals to use as style inspiration.

Simone Bridges Oliver: As the online fashion editor of The New York Times, Oliver's boards are a testiment to her eye for style and show the best that fashion has to offer. We are obsessed.

Fashion Geek Alert: Netrobe brings Digital Closet from Clueless to Life

Remember the scene in the movie Clueless when Alicia Silverstone's character picks out her outfit through a computer program, casually scrolling through each of her sartorial items? Well, apparently that movie-making fantasy has come to life by an i-phone application called Netrobe, which allows its users to create personal online closets.

Created by Christina Plakopita, the main objectives of Netrobe is to organize your wardrobe in one place, remind you of what you own, and help you both dress and shop smarter. You simply take photos of your clothes or items and then save the collection on virtual Polaroids, which can then be organized into categories. Once you've created the online wardrobe, you can view the items in a grid or list mode. For those of you struggling with overstuffed closets like me and have yet to afford the grand walk-in you hope to have one day- and actually see the clothes you own- download Netrobe and stop the Feng Shui attacks that prompt you to rush to the Container Store.
